The process of deglobalization is once again solidifying concepts that globalization had rendered more diffuse and that ambiguous formations such as international society had made available. How nationalism, as the ideological argument of deglobalization, will shape the global system is already a matter of considerable interest. In the twenty-first century, nationalisms are not only reconceptualizing issues such as migration, climate change, and environmental problems by removing them from their liberal framing, but are also transforming their ideological terminology. Another open question is whether this transformation will follow a positive or negative course, given nationalism’s eclectic capacity and its rapidly mutating character.

This study, titled Current Issues of Turkish Nationalism in the Twenty-First Century, seeks to explore, in the case of Türkiye, how nationalism will be shaped by the dynamics of the twenty-first century and/or how it will shape the geography in which we live under its own distinctive conditions. At a time when nationalism’s epistemic institutions, such as national identity, national sovereignty, and the nation-state, remain subjects of political and academic debate in Türkiye, Turkish nationalism has once again embarked on its journey into the twenty-first century. Accompanied by the new century of the Republic, this journey also makes it worthwhile to examine what Turkish nationalism brings with it. In this respect, the study has the distinction of being the first to examine, in a detailed and holistic manner, the elements of continuity and change in Turkish nationalism alongside the changing dynamics of the twenty-first century. It is therefore argued that the study will open a new page in discussions of Turkish nationalism and that Turkish nationalism will be reread through this new frame.
